Freeroll
Tournaments - The way to hard cash
without having to risk your own money.
Freerolls are a
marketing strategy used by poker sites that is
intended to attract new players by offering real
money prize pots without an entry fee to be paid.
This method of enticing new players can only be
welcomed and will now be explained how it works.
Using the example of William
Hill Poker, they offer Freerolls every Saturday
& Sunday with a prize pot of £500 for
each tournament. The amount of players is limited
to 1,000 -- so be there the very second registration
opens for the Freeroll because seats are gone
very quickly.
When you make it into the prize rankings, which
is usually the last 100 remaining players, your
share of the prize pot will then be credited to
your poker account once the Freeroll is finished.
The amount of money you get naturally depends
on your placing. You can then use that money to
take it to the cash tables or as a buy in to another
tournament and thereby potentially accumulate
more winnings. You may, however, even cash out
your Freeroll winnings.
At this point we
need to point out that it may take a mere 2-3
hours of playing before reaching the prize money
ranks. This may seem a long time to some people
for a comparatively small reward, however, the
amount of practise you get is invalueable since
you’ll be playing a lot of hands where you
can monitor other player’s game, tactics
or mistakes they make and, most importantly, find
out about your own poker skills. Even so you may
not make it into the prize money every time, you
are definitely on your way to become a better
poker player and you had pretty good entertainment
-- for free.
